Gremlins!!!!
Gremlins!!!!
Ok, this is in a 95 Civic Dx.
White smoke from the tailpipe (sometimes at idle, sometimes just when I'm accelerating) burning through oil faster and faster, as well I keep getting antifreeze spraying all over the inside of the engine compartment. I just replaced the upper radiator hose (it was pretty soft and spongy), as well as the thermostat for good measure.
I just had the head gasket replaced a couple of months ago (along with the timing belt, tensioner, oil pan gasket, water pump, etc, etc).
It seems to run ok, on my last tank I got around 37 mpg. My wife was driving it around yesterday and it kept stalling and intermittently turning the oil light on for her. She put in a quart and came home, after letting it cool down, I put in another quart.
Any suggestions?

Re: Gremlins!!!!
Take off your radiator cap and start your car. If you are seeing prominent soapy-looking bubbles come to the top, then you have exhaust getting into the coolant, and you're head gasket is the culprit.
Re: Gremlins!!!!
So I just ran it with the radiator cap off, no soapy bubbles, but I went and took a brown paper bag and put it up to the exhaust. I got (water) wet and wet oily streaks on it there. I also took the oil cap off of the valve cover with it running and put the paper over it there as well. I got the oily spray, but I also got some coolant spray there as well! Do I have a valve seal issue as well?
On a side note, I pulled the plugs, and surprisingly they looked pretty good- they had the nice 'toasted marshmallow' color to them. No oiliness, a little black around the body of the plug, but
I want to drop kick this thing but I've already dumped a bunch of dough into getting it fixed (unfortunately I had the head gasket done in Utah, and now I'm in Virginia, so I can't go back to the first shop and make them fix their screw up!).

Re: Gremlins!!!!
Coolant coming out of the oil fill isn't valve clearance issues. It's a headgasket issue, sorry bro. There should be absolutely no oil, water, or exhaust gases mixing- ever.
Re: Gremlins!!!!
I didn't mean valve clearance, I was just wondering if I should look at my valve seals too.
On a side note, and this may be blasphemous, but is there any decent 'head gasket repair in a bottle' product that may be able to hold this thing together until I can get the head redone?

Re: Gremlins!!!!
Solved the case of the disappearing coolant... crack in the radiator. JB Weld to the freakin' rescue...
