Stage 2 cam dyno updates
Cliff notes @ bottom of 1st post
So some of you know that I stuck in a crower stage 2 cam w/ valve springs and retainers in on x-mas.
Then after 5 minutes of test driving disaster struck!!!
The cam gear slipped the cam bolt backed off and I lost the timing belt and 4 exhaust valves and the cam angle sensor.
(what I learned: never ever forget locktite!) Towed the car back to the house front bumper caught on the trailer and ripped it half off when backing it off
. And then finally when taking off the driver side wheel to get to the crank one of the wheel studs snapped and the wheel bearing came apart when trying to replace the stud
So I got everything back together replaced the valves cleaned up the head a bit with a little bit of dremel P&P got everything running great. And I took it into Tempest racing today toget it dyno tuned.
We had one pull that was a 137 Hp and i think we got at one point up to 144 Hp. Mind you this was done on a Dynojet 248 which if I am not mistaken reads a little lower then the dynapacks
The guys at Tempest were surprised that it was that high for a SOHC. I am supposed to get the chart emailed to me tomorrow I think it is only at 127 right the moment I will post when I get it.
I have some serious exhaust leaks that just sprang up in the past week I couldn't fit one of the gaskets so I used some high temp gasket sealer that ended up blowing out
And then I think speedfoos's electrical gremlins hopped the boat over here and jumped into my car, cause now we think my o2 sensor is dead. So get this when I start my car it runs really really bad; dumps fuel, doesn't idle, coughs, chokes, spits and then when the engine light comes for the o2 sensor it stops messing around and runs perfectly! So I have to wait for like 2 mins until the engine light comes on every time I start my car, cause K-pro resets the codes every time you turn it off.
Cliff Notes: So I'm putting probably a little over 127 to the road, have a really bad exhaust leak, Electrical gremlins running aloof, but despite the numbers the car is actually pretty fast and likes b's for breakfast

Re: Stage 2 cam dyno updates
you are easting b's for breakfast with 127 hp to the wheels? lol. I can't wait for my stuff to come in. I was planning on a stage 2 crower cam as well, but mine will be for boost.

Re: Stage 2 cam dyno updates
The Cam is really great it really frees up the engine alot and when vtec kicks in it puts you back in your seat. vtec actually felt like it kicked in harder than my 99 prelude before the tune but now with my new map it comes in really smooth.
If you do try it again go K-pro I know it's really expensive but it's worth it. I got the car idling with no problems by myself it just felt a little lopey. But once it got tuned and the engine light comes on
it idles almost exactly like stock it's so smooth

Re: Stage 2 cam dyno updates
I read the first couple of lines and was like 'oh great, another loser that destroyed his na car before he got it tuned and dynoed.' Then I realized that the little accident happened a while ago and you had actually dynoed. SWEEEEET
Im glad to see you came through. Get all those nasty gremlins to disappear and keep giving us updates. What else have you got planned???

Nice man. After you get thoes problems fixed are you going to dyno again and post a sheet- you should.
What about plans for port n polish on the head / angle job, new valves, building the block- anything?

Re: Stage 2 cam dyno updates
Yeah I already have gremlin killing parts and some new gaskets coming on the way.
Plus hopefully in a couple of weeks I will have a custom intake mani coming and by then everything should be worked out and it's back to the dyno to finalize my map I see how much I can really put down.
I am not sure what the future plans are for the car yet I have some ideas up my sleeve but right the moment I am being forced by one of my friends to waste my money on a decent set of rims and tires for Autox

Re: Stage 2 cam dyno updates
Thanks! As far as internals I have already dropped the oil pan and slipped in some arp rod bolts but thats about it. A full PnP that has been flowbenched w/valves is a bit pricey for me right the moment. But Boiler was tossing around some ideas for internals earlier on, that I might think about trying later on.

Re: Stage 2 cam dyno updates
we were talking about N/A, I gather at one point he was thinking about toying around with the idea of seeing what could be squeezed out of an N/A car. I think it was around when he was building up his motor cause he had some spare blocks laying or something at the time. When it came down to it I think it was just too much of a hassle for him to do at the time and it just didn't seem worth it. I'll pm you some info
On a Side note Boiler is the greatest! for hooking me up with valves

Excellent stuff man! How difficult was it to install the new rod bolts? Were you able to do it with the girdle still in place? I've had my cam gear on and off so many times I can't count and it's never slipped (knocks on wood). Yeah I can't for my intake mani to be done either!
Thanks for taking my gremlins by the way. It's nice not having them around anymore.

Thanks! Rod bolts were actually a piece of cake as long as you don't mind laying on your back. And there like $38 from summit. Way easier than trying to get a cam shaft in IMO. I think I might right up a DIY for it this evening when I get home.
And no i didn't have to drop the girdle just take your time and and do one bolt at a time and you'll be fine hardest part was cracking the seal on the oil pan lol!
