loose sound under hood 94 honda civic
Hi guys! I'm hearing a weird sound under my hood. I can hear the sound either on the 3rd and 4th gear and around 2000-3000 rpm. Its hard to describe the actual sound but I think it's like something is loose under the hood.
I have a 1994 Honda Civic EX (all stock) with a 1.6 engine. If it helps I just got my head gasket replaced a few weeks back. I started noticing the sound after I got the head gasket replaced and my mechanic is telling me that it is not related to the head gasket anymore.
I'd really appreciate any information you guys can give me regarding my situation. Thank You So Much!

Thanks for the response. Been looking up what heat shield rattle is. I'm not sure its the sound that my car makes basing on what I've read. Can you give me a better description of what a heat shield rattle is? I can only hear the sound at a certain RPM though. Lets say its really the problem, can I just leave it be for now? I'm just very noob at this thing and don't have the time and effort yet for now.

It'll sound like a metal on metal vibration sound. Different frequencies (engine vibrations) can cause things that wouldn't normally touch each other to barely touch and vibrate against each other causing a rattling sound, as if something is kinda loose.

The thing is I can only hear it on the 3rd and 4th gear. I hope its not a problem with the transmission. I'll probably just get it lifted so I can record the sound. The sound is light like a bunch of coins/keys put in a bag and the bag is shaken.

Yeah, it's the heat shield. We've all had it happen. It's not gonna harm anything, just rattles.

Wow that's really good to hear. My mechanic just ripped me off saying its the front wheel bearing after putting it on the sound is still there. Thanks for the advice guys appreciate it!

Go back to your mechanic and deliver a swift kick to the genitalia. Even if you miss the *****, I hear getting a swift kick to the taint (for those who don't know where the taint is, its the area between your ******* and anus) is hell, too.
Lol.. serious tho, take off the heatshield on your exhaust mani to see if that's the culprit

I've had a very similar problem with my 99 dx. It was my exhaust. whenever i changed teh oil, i had to tighten it up. But eventually the muffler fell off and the whole exhaust went to ****. Sold the car the next day. haha. If i were you, i would get under the car and follow the exhaust all the way back and see if anything is loose, or breaking. Possibly save you some money down the road, that is if you aren't sure it is the heat shield.

Make sure your tires aren't falling off. Stop by a local tire's plus or firestone and ask them to check the torque on your front tires. lol. It's a shot in the wind, but.. worth if i suppose.

Tip of a steel toe boot to the taint. Do it.
Better yet, aim for the tip of your shoe, boot, et cetera to hit his taint, then have the laces part hit both of his *****. Double Whammy! Bwahaha..
