Whats up people, ok my car reeks like gas inside the car. every now and then it will go away. but there are times that i'm inside my car and i have to roll down the windows because it smells like straight fumes. and then there are times it doesn't smell at all. Anyone know what it could be? anything would help thanx
are you leaking fuel anywhere? i dont think there is any gas related hardware inside the car other than fuel pump under the rear seat cushion which should be sealed.
no i am not leaking gas and yeah the fuel pump is sealed. sorry took so long to reply back
might need to try and look for a small gas leak in the lines. any drops on the ground?
I have and i havent found any craks on the lines. my car doesnt leak at all? Do you have any other ideas what it could be.
also check the vapor lines, for the evap system. alot of them run under the car and in the engine bay around the throttle body. if one is torn, gas vapors would come out and get sucked in from the front window vent into the cabin. is it really strong gas smell?
sometimes it is and there will be times that you can't even smell it. but there have been times that the car is parked with the windows up and when i open the door i can smell the gas right away
oh wow my 92 hatch has the same thing..... it was worse in the summer though idk what it can be is there any leak detector kits available for the fuel system?
i dont know? but yeah it does get worst in the summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would get the same smell when I ran a race header (aka catless exhaust). The smell would find a way in somehow- maybe the cabin intake air. Check the engine bay- fuel lines to fuel rail and injectors. Maybe its leaking around there and getting sucked in the cabin.
Does it happen just when your stopped, or when your gassing it a lot?

Fuel injector O-rings are notorius for causing these symptoms and it is really impossible to diagnose without just replacing. It's a cheap and less invasive way of troubleshooting too might I add.
this may be a long shot, but pull off your rear seat cushion and make sure the fuel pump cover in the middle is seated properly. if its even a tiny bit off center or somehow broken, you will have gas fumes coming in and stinking up the whole car.
What do you mean by riding either really low or really high!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ???
When i had that problem my car was putting to like it was going to died when i accelerated. How i solved that problem was it ended up being my spark plug wires and that one wasnt hitting. new wires fixed it.
I had the same thing going on in my 89 Civic Lx Sedan. Turns out the original gas cap had a bad seal and would leak gas down the filler neck, through where the filler neck and body mate, and it would make its way into the trunk. I replaced the gas cap and so far problem solved.
One drop of gas that dries before it hits the ground will smell up a car or closed garage. You are simple going to have to follow ever line from the tank to the engine compartment. Maybe an old hose at a flex area. Someone over tightened a fuel filter fitting. It's there.
Fuel pump filter housing probably cracked. Under back seat and fuel tank cover. Attached by fuel tank securing ring. That's what mine was. Order from Rock auto. $28.00.
Who brought this 5 year old thread back from the grave?
