500hp to stock with a switch
500hp to stock with a switch
With all of todays technology can you build a civic to reach 500hp reliably but with a computer and mapping saved switch to stock. I know they have electronic wastegates and exaughst cutouts. So that part could be controlled but could you build a car to handle 500hp but drive it like a stock car daily then pull beside a car and switch mapping and engage whatever was needed to get to 500hp so it would be a reliable daily that could race when stock is not enough? What would you have to do to achieve this? I would assume alot of customizing maybe a separate fuel tank and fuel cell on e85. Would you need 2 sizes of injectors could you switch between them? Tell me what limits this idea of a built engine to switch between the two formats.
Re: 500hp to stock with a switch
I've seen guys driving civics over 1000hp so i know this is not true but i also notice 500 to 750 seems to only produce less than 1 sec difference in a quater mile so i have no desire to invest above 500 at all it like to hit 500 know the mapping and tune and have tunes available for less. I love the idea of on the fly adjustments and want to build a car with that in mind. I'm not trying to beat on it every day i drive alot of traffic it will be a sleeper to the max. But I want to be able to do more.
Re: 500hp to stock with a switch
You're misunderstanding his point, but the 1000hp Civics are also typically AWD. Not sure I've ever seen a FWD one. 1 second is also a huge difference.
You can change maps somewhat on the fly but it won't be as drastic as what you're looking for. A small displacement engine equipped to make a reliable 500hp is going to be almost useless turned down as low as you're suggesting (I'll use 200 for instance). You can't easily equip it for both.
At that point, you're better off owning two cars.
