D16Y7 with a different head?

I hope I'm posting this in the right place I've never signed up for a forum like ever but I'm a little stumped.
So I bought a 99 civic DX a customer had brought in and we diagnosed it having a blown head gasket. I offered to buy it off him as I need a fuel efficient car. I've been looking it over and there's a VVT solenoid on the back of the head but there's no connector and no code stored for the vvt. The customer is not mechanically savvy so he didn't know anything about it. I've come to the conclusion someone swapped the head but didn't swap the harness and ECU. Are there any identifying markers to tell me which head is on it? Does it even matter with replacing the head gasket and bolts?

Check the block number to see if the bottom end is a y7 or a y8.
Could be someone threw just a y8 head on, or they put an entire y8 in.
Wouldn't be that hard to get the VTEC hooked up and running.
Gaskets and bolts are all the same, except for the additional ones for the solenoid

I could've sworn it said Y7 but after cleaning some oil of it does say Y8. So I guess someone just did a half *** engine swap and kept the Y7 harness and ecu.

Most likely, so if you want, grab the correct harness and ecu and you should be all set to enjoy that extra 15-20hp
