Engine Swap Help
Engine Swap Help
I'm looking to buy a new car and I'm specifically looking at a 1999 civic hatch dx. But I did notice it has a pretty small engine in it. I was wondering if I was to buy it and swap a bigger motor in it what would be the best for me? I'm not looking to blow the doors of or anything but would like my bang. And would I have to buy a new tranny depending on what engine I get?
(It's a stock 1.6 d16 I believe.)
Thank you in advance

Re: Engine Swap Help
Motor swaps are either a lot of work, or a lot of money. If you pay someone else to do it you will probably end up spending more then you paid for the car.
That being said the B series honda engines will have the best aftermarket support for that chassis.
The transmission won't bolt up so you will need a B series transmission and you may need an ecu, wiring harness and engine mounts.
We'll have to wait till a 6th gen civic expert chimes in.
Until then I would sawy to google DIYs on D to B series swaps.
