Engine Swap???

Anyone know what would be the cheapest, easiest, fastest for the price engine swap? I have a 99 Civic Ex.. I need a little more speed than the 1.6 4 cylinder stock I have now.

Re: Engine Swap???

There's a lot more to it than just being a 1.6L 4-cylinder. Just sayin.. you have a d16 in there, but the 99-00 Si also has a 1.6L 4 banger under the hood. The difference is its a B series engine (dohc) vs your D series (sohc). B16 swaps will prolly be the easiest, and that engine is a beast. Prolly won't be cheap, though

What can I do to really improve speed and acceleration without buying a turbo?

Re: Engine Swap???

you could also look at a y8 head swap (aka mini me swap) or the whole y8 if you have a D16y7.

Lightweight flywheel (if you have a manual transmission) will kinda increase acceleration and maybe a bit of wheel horsepower (due to less loss at the transmission). Same with lightweight wheels. Both reduce the rotational mass your engine needs to turn. One caveat with the flywheel, however, the clutch "catch point window," if you will, will be a lot smaller.

You're not gonna get noticeable power gains without putting some money into it though.

Re: Engine Swap???

to answer your question cheapest and easiest swap would be doing ls, b series swaps 1.8L non vtec from integra. that or you can mod your d16. but really depends on what your looking for and what you really want out of our car. theres literally so many different swaps and hybrid builds and etc for our civics
