D16y7 '96 hatch .30 over build???? "I know RiGHT"!!
out of pure mwahhahaha I have decided to build a Y7, i'm sure that most of you may think thats insane. First let me say that I would love nothing more than being able to toy with these kids around my neighborhood in a d series non- vtec. I started firstly with 600 cash to buy this automatic nightmare in less than poor condition from a friend who needed a down payment for a new car. I immediately had to replace not one but two cv axles(150$) along with a set of used KYB's(125$)and front and rear "stabilizer bars"(60$). Next I had to replace a passenger mirror along with a door panel and seats. rotors, calipers and a rebuilt alternator later I grew disgusted at the amount of oil this lunker was leaking or using and how miserably slow it was. I was forced to drop it at the shop for a full rebuild(1116$). .30 over was the largest kit offered besides a .50 over kit which had bad reviews. The new 1.749 roughly motor was incredibly strong after a DC header and a Y8 intake manifold. Bought all the parts for a five speed swap(550$) installing next week. In the mean time I am trying to explore other avenues of naturally aspired upgrades, any input will be greatly appreciated. I am interested in any parts that anyone might have for sale.
I have faith that i can get real results while straying from V-TEC...Thank you in advance for any info

Dude Im pushing well over 200 and prolly closer to 250 on my y7 so it can be done. But as far as money I have in my car dont ask. Just go to my garage and look up sleeper civic. I have a lowered civic lx on 16" enkei wheels with a turbonetics turbo pushing 14psi. I havent dynoed it but I know for a fact that im over 200 but there is no way im closer to 300 than 250.
Dont rush to assume things about that d16y7. They are quite good motors. I opted not to do the y8 mini me because the vtec eats oil. Yes the ports are way better but after a mild port and polish from the local machine shop and im sure mine is flowing just as good if not better. Also the d16y8 ports on the intake side have a bump for the vtec in the final port and for that matter the ports all together are all different sizes. Mine on the y7 are all the same size and it does the job under boost.
On another note the intake from the y7 is complete garbage. I would recommend upgrading to the y8 intake. It will gain you about 6 hp on dyno. So with a cold air intake, the y8 intake plenum, headers, and full exhaust you should be up around 120 hp at the wheel. I have a venom computer I would sell you if your interested. I dont use it anymore since im now turbo.
