No spark, need expert advice

Here's the deal, got a 00 civic ex, spun a bearing and the engine needs some time and money to rebuild. I need this car as a dd so i found a d16y5 from a 97 hx. dropped it in for now just to get back and forth to work and such. Used the ex harness, ecu and dizzy. try to crank it and no spark. realized i missed a ground. hooked it up and decided to check the rest of the grounds. none were installed (friend helped, he was suppose to do the harness). at first the relay clicked and the fuel pump and the CEL came on normally. now it doesn't. no CEL, click or pump and still no spark. did the test on the ecu and it checked bad, picked up another from a running ex. (same ecu) and get the same problem. no cel, relay, pump or spark. and this one checked bad also (doing the test checking for voltage to the map sensor). I'm truly at a loss. could the ground from the harness have a break in it? it would help if i knew what pin in the ecu was the ground. I'm a fairly decent mechanic and this has got me stumped. any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you're shorting out something, make sure you have all the wiring hooked up correctly

I checked the harness and the only thing I found is on the trans reverse switch plug seems to be grounded on both wires, but it gets power to it. Don't know if that's how it's supposed to work. I also did the check on the CEL where you jumper the power wire for the light to see if it comes on and it did, the next troubleshooting step is to swap ECU's. I'm at a loss on this one.

Re: No spark, need expert advice

i have a similar problem no spark etc. but i think its down to the fact that the ecu and black controller box i installed does not have the proper key so when i use my old ecu of my 1.6 ils it starts up,but drives with a miss fire, when i installed my vtec ecu it just keeps cranking but no spark

Pulled the engine harness and couldn't find any smoking guns. Could I have messed something up trying to start without the grounds hooked up? I love my hondas but I'm just about ready to scrap this damn car.

Re: No spark, need expert advice

Alright. So I finally figured it out. Apparently when I was dicking around under the dash I pulled off what I thought was a dust cover for the harness. Well it wasn't. I noticed it had male connecters on it that were all bonded toghether. So I plugged it back in and Houston we have lift-off. thanks for all the help though.
