'Boost' coming to a beater near you.
Hello all,
New to the forums, and here for some helpful info/support. I just acquired my 1st project engine. got a jdm b16a second gen which will be going into my EF Si hatch. Im thinking of boosting, not sure of how much whp im gonna be trying to reach, but somewhere near the 200s would be good. I'm thinking of boosting up to 25psi. Of course i'll be doing some bottom end work, i.e. sleeves, pistons and rods. How much boost would the factory crank be able to take? also, what type of head work would really make it a bit more reliable? what about trans? i've been told by some people that 'performance' clutches are rough on trannys. open to suggestions/comments.
P.S. not sure if this has been posted before.
thanks for any positive comments

do some reading on honda-tech. you should be able to find your answers there. since this is a mostly 7th gen forum, i'll say welcome, but prepare to get flamed for your previous post.

Factory crank is pert near bulletproof, no worries there. 25 psi will get you a hell of a lot more than 200whp, no matter which turbo is pushing it. It will be pretty much undrivable on the street if you run that much boost daily though.

Before jumping headlong into something like this.... figure it all out. 25 psi is an insane number, especially considering 200 HP takes about 5 to reach.

Well, thanks for the welcome. Yea, i was thinking 25 was a big number... i mean, what i have in mind right now is something that can be reliable on street too. though it doesnt have to be crazy power. just wanted to get an idea of what types of things would take a beating as opposed to need to be replace before anything.

OK... I try and be everyone's conscience here. The B16A is a small but fun engine... Seriously... Turbo-ing something that stressed out is a bad idea. I forget exactly but it's what... 10.5:1 compression ratio? That's a total pain to change and alot more money than you probably want to spend on.... c'mon.... a CRX.
If you want 200whp... Get a Skunk2 camshaft, cam gears, an A'PEXi VAFC, passwordJDM CF intake, Skunk2 headers/exhaust and have fun.
A friend of mine put all that into a 6th Gen hatch and that car shredded many a musclecar... Thing ran deep 13s.
DO NOT TURBO THAT MOTOR.

I am actually in the process of building my buddies civic.......b16a2 no cams, built bottom end,JG intake manifold, walbro fuel pump, stock drag turbo kit, and 550cc injectors with fuel rail.......we made 290whp @10 psi and 330whp @ 17psi......tuned on Chrome.
We now are in the process of putting 770cc injectors in, new equal length manifold(not sure yet), new turbo turbonetics 60 trim, lsd and clutch..........
I can't wait..I'll take pictures as soon as I get my camera...
Here's a vid I out of it on streetfire....13.3 @ 10 psi against an evo (still not traction with Mickey E/Ts's) My girlfriend is annoucing the race...Here's the link
P.S. Incase your wondering that is a full ITR suspension & wheels

See my original post above! Car is a rocket...kill list is too long. 400whp is just gonna be lots of lost traction and craziness. Anything 200-250whp is well enough for a little civic on the street.
The B16 is still a motor, it operates just like a b18 or d17. What you do to increase bore, stroke, fuel, spark, compression, & air flow will all determine what the motor will actually put out. Yes some motors start off better than some but you can pretty much make power with anything.....I think the D17 is a prime example of that.
