98 civic wheels rub inner quarter panel
98 civic wheels rub inner quarter panel
I bought a 98 civic ex for our 16 y/o son. Of course I had to modify it to make it enticing to a 16 y/o. One of those modifications was adding new wheels. I have Montegi 18 inch wheels with 225/40/18 tires. My problem is with wheel rub. I get rub anytime there is the smallest bump in the road or when turning and the body flexes. It seems like there is little or no rub on the front wheels unless the steering wheel is turned all the way. Additionally, if there are any passengers in the back seat, I get a constant rub. My local tire dealer says the tires are too big and that I should use a 215/35/18 to eliminate all rub. That tire only decreases the overall tire height 1 1/4 inches. I have reason to believe maybe the springs and shocks are worn due to the 265000 miles. I'm asking if by replacing the shocks/springs if that will eliminate the rub or by simply replacing the tires, will that solve the issue? With no load, there is a gap of about 1 1/2 inches between the tire and the quarter panel as it sits. I have a hard time believing that by replacing the tires, any rub will be eliminated. I am an avid user of a chevy trailblzer forum and hope to get some great information from some of you. Thank you for taking the time to read.
