We recently purchased a really nice '99 Ex coupe for my girlfriend. It has an aftermarket radio and the key fob doesn't work. I've looked around here a bit and other forums and haven't been able to figure it out. I read only te 96-98 neeeds to have the factory stereo still installed in order for the fob to work, then in other places I read the '99 does also so I'm confused on that one.

When the car is unlocked with the key the dome light comes on. It also comes on when the door is unlocked. The key fob does work as indicated by the red led light illuminating when a button is pushed. I tried to reprogramm it per instructions I found from the maint. manuel to no avail.

Any advice on what to do or check? TIA

honestly, its aftermarket and most of those are crap. so it maybe just be crapping out on you, you should probably take it to "alarm and audio" place to look at it. those guys are the experts when it comes to crappy alarms

Aftermarkrt? The key fob says HONDA right on it. It's the same fob I've seen on other Hondas as well, has the long red Panic button on the bottom with the unlock (round) and lock button (oval) above it.
