Angry Poor idle and engine light coming on

My 02 Civic EX was having problems with the engine light coming on and off. A computer said it was the TPS. I drove it for a month and now the enging light goes on and off when I first start it and when it comes on the rpms drop significantly. It will do this 5 or 6 times until the engine light comes on and then the cars tach and temp gauges dont work. When I drive it there is no pawer and its not shifting correctly. I replaced the throttle body with sensors and reset everything, but it didnt work. What could the problem be? Anyone please, Give me some clues. I dont want to pay a mechanic to troubleshoot it because I, like everyone else amd flat broke. ?????

it really sounds like tps but if replacing the throttle body didnt work, im not sure. did you clean everything before installing the new one? like the idle valve?

if the CEL's coming on, go to autozone and get the codes read for free.

Re: Poor idle and engine light coming on

Thank you for your replies guys. I have taken it to autozone and pep boys and a privately owned shop and all their computers say the same thing, "Open Circuit". Cant read. And whats a CEL? Sorry to sound so fundamental But I dont know anything about this. What and where are the connections I should check? And where is the valve I should clean? Thanx a million guys!!!!!

Re: Poor idle and engine light coming on

its behind the glove box. if the code scanners cannot read check engine light, your ecu is bad.

Re: Poor idle and engine light coming on

Thanks guy. It only said "Open Circuit". I spoke to a local auto electric shop and they said that this year model is really bad for ECU problems. Is this true? Im am going to pick up a used one from a local shop for 100.00. Sorry I sound like such a newbie. but Im learning. Thanks again....

Re: Poor idle and engine light coming on

Honestly sounds like an ECU problem. If you are having mis shifts gauges not working and shitty idle.. I would imagine that all these things aren't going bad all at once. It has to be the computer. Try to see if you can pick up a used ECU and try it, or borrow one from a friend maybe. Try to buy one that you could perhaps return if its not it, but I highly doubt they will allow you to return it. I honestly think its the ECU. What codes are you pulling? You say open circuit? Possibly one of the wires are cut from your ECU, probably unlikely, probably just your ECU going bad.
