aftermarket head unit, wire harness question

hey all! i just purchased a used Pioneer AVIC D3 from ebay. i'm pretty stoked about it. it's about time i upgraded from my sony xplod. well, i'm going from a single din to a double din.... do i need a new wire harness or can i use the one that's used on the xplod?... thanks in advance.

Your gonna have to change the harness... there is a 99.9872238% chance that the Xplod harness won't work with the Pioneer.

you should have the sony harness connected to an OEM adapter harness if it was installed correctly. you can cut the sony part off and leave that with the sony HU. the OEM adapter should be able to be connected to the Pioneer for the most part so it will plug into the OEM plug.

Make sure to disconnect the ground wire from your battery before you start installing the new one. It can be frustrating if you blow a fuse if you but the wires while they are live.

Shouldnt join wires at all in the car... you "join" the harnesses completly seperate from the car then just hook it into the stock connector ... the only time you should join wires when they are in the car is if you cut the stock harness off (which for a proper install, you should never do)
