Replacing stock speakers
Replacing stock speakers
Alright, so all but one of the speakers in my 1997 Civic Ex are busted. Here's the set-up I'm thinking of getting. My budget is gonna be around $300 for everything, including installation.
-Sony Xplod CDX-GT31W Headunit (already have from my last car) $0
-Infinity Kappa 63.7i or Kappa 62.7i OR get a component system?($80,$70, ??? all new on ebay)
-Infinity Kappa 693.7i ($98 new on ebay)
So what would you suggest?
Is there a huge difference between a 2 or 3 way speaker or a component system?
I mainly listen to either rap, metal, rock, and occasionally some hip-hop. But mainly rap and metal. Should I even go with Infinity?
Thanks in advance and sorry for all the questions!

Re: Replacing stock speakers
Infinity is very good and always rated well on this site. They are excellent. I personally have an all-Alpine set up, with 2 way door speakers, an amp, subs, and a headunit. Theyre great. But i had to dremel a little on the door panel to get them to fit. The Infinity's are supposed to fit right in. But if you do aftermarket speakers, be sure to get an amp. Just decide which (2 or 4 channel) amp you want, and then go find it on ebay for 1/3 the price. Good Luck with it all.

I also have an old Rockford Fosgate 45 Punch.
I'm not too knowledgeable on amps, but I thought I wouldn't need one for the door and rear speaker.
Is it necessary?

Re: Replacing stock speakers
Well, I think I will just get the speakers installed, and get the amp later.
Sound good?
But if I do decide to get an amp, what should I get that is decent and cheap?
2 or 4 channel?
What kind of wattage?
Brand?
Ehh, im still a noob >_<
EDIT: Apparently the 3-way 6" x 9" Kappas will not fit in my civic according to cruthfield >_<.
But the 2 -ways will.
What is the difference?
Neither of the 6 1/2" Kappas will fit either.
AHHH WTFFF.

Re: Replacing stock speakers
ahh dont listen to crutchfield. they said my alpines wouldnt fit, and they popped right in and they came with the exact same bracket. Buy your speakers from onlinecarstero.com and your amp from ebay. I got an Alpine 4 channel amp with 70RMS each way thats worth $330 at Best Buy for $177 shippedd off ebay
Re: Replacing stock speakers
Alright, so im just going to get the Kappa 2-ways (I don't care for a "supertweater" xD)
I'm going to get a 4-channel amp.
The 6.5"s are rated at 75 rms each and the 6x9"s are 110 rms.
So any amp that can run atleast 75 rms x 4 at 2 ohms.
Any suggestions?
My budget on the amp is $100.
I don't need anything amazing, just good enough for my needs.
What do you think of these?

I like the Crunch amp the most, it seems like a great deal.

Re: Replacing stock speakers
Tip:
NEVER EVER go by peak or max power from the amp or HU. Amps will never play at max/peak power.
Strictly go by RMS. HU will power any speakers you get (never a sub) but to get the most out of what you buy, definitely also get an amp.
Try this one (use a D-Class amp, no need for an A/B class, they're to inefficient)

Ebay is great for first time buys and deals on lower end equipment

Re: Replacing stock speakers
^^^ agree. RMS is the only way to go.
Seriously, if you're going to be using the head unit to power the speakers, save money and buy the most efficient 2-way or 3-way speakers you can find that sound good to you.
If you buy Kappa components, then run them off the head unit, thats like buying a ferrari and pouring whiskey in the gastank (well, sort of).
If you cant buy the whole thing right now, I recommend getting some front 2-ways that sound good off the radio. If you want to get all crazy go and buy a set of rear 2 or 3-ways while your at it.
Then, when you're in the upgrade market, get a quality 2 or 4 channel full-range amplifier.
But buying high-end (relatively) components right now is not recommended, if they're going to be powered by the head unit.
Save money, get a pair of fronts in the $80-150 range that sound good at your local big-box entertainment store.

Re: Replacing stock speakers
If your brand of preference is Infinity then the Reference series is definitely for you.
You are nice off the deck, and just awesome off an amp for the price!

Re: Replacing stock speakers
Well, im deff. getting the front, rear, and amp all at the same time.
I'm stretching my budget a little, to compensate for the amp and the installation.
About $400 all together. $300 for the speakers and amp.
I haven't even looked at the max wattage lol. Strictly RMS.
I'm SET on the Kappa's.
My friend has some in his jeep, and they sound great!
But does anyone have anymore input on the Crunch amp?
It seems like my best bet.

Re: Replacing stock speakers
I wouldnt bother with a Crunch amp, and they arent very good quality amps. They just throw out dirty power as far as I'm concerned. That kicker I linked you to is a great amp, and I can find others if you don't like it.

Re: Replacing stock speakers
It doesn't really get that hot at all....Crutchfield wrote up a review about that deck...because it doesn't use a MOSFET amp, it doesn't generate a whole lot of heat. The deck is worth the money...with a good set of components, u can turn the volume all the way up without distorting the sound. Its worth it man!

Re: Replacing stock speakers
You can do the same with an amp.
Personally, I would rather do an amp just because you can more sound options, like Xover, gain, different filters etc.

Re: Replacing stock speakers
If you have any other suggestions that would be great though! I'd appreciate it, as I'm not very inclined about car audio.
Re: Replacing stock speakers
Im looking at front speakers and an amp for my 04 Civic Ex Coupe. Can i get advice on whether or not my amp and and speaker combo are right for each other. I want to get Kicker KS6.2 6.5" front speakers and a Kicker 11DX300.2 2 Channel Amp. Will my amp have enough power to push my front speakers?
