Does a new Amp need a new alternator?

I want to get some serious audio gear for the 96 civic i just bought. Maybe a big amp to power 4 speakers and a sub.. (possably a second amp for the sub). Does the stock alternator from a 1996 civic suport this much power? If not what would be a good choice to replace it? Wile Im on the subject does anyone know a good bang for buck system of speakers and amp that would make my car sound like a concert? well not as loud but as detailed. I favor detail over power. My budget is around 700$

Re: Does a new Amp need a new alternator?

Make sure to re-ground your battery NEG- with 4G and goldplated terminals,
same with any grounds from the chassis to the engine/trans.

Next, Get a good Capacitor 2farad will do fine.

Make sure to keep the 4G POWER all the way to the amp (except the vamp fuse 1' away from the battery POS+)

Ground 1' away from amp to chassis with 4G

Keep it tight....itll be fine but you dont need a new Alt

It takes the beating rather then your altenator on huge amper draws from the amplifier.

Re: Does a new Amp need a new alternator?

you can get a 1farad for 60-100.00
or...get the 2.0 Farad as i requested for 150+

It will save your altenator from the big amper draws!
otherwise....ya...bye bye altenator!

i actually smoked an altenator froma stereo in a Celica GT-S
was funny as hell until got the bill for the Altenator....
