ran into curb :(
ran into curb :(
The other morning on my way to work i slid into a curb. It had just snowed and the snow plows weren't out yet. I bent the rim and busted a chunk out of the hubcap. I was doing about 25 when i hit it. I got a new rim and tire from junkyard for $58. i checked everything when i changed the tire, tried to move rotor up and down and left and right but it was solid as a rock. now the tire sits a little to the rear. I will check the lca but i think it might just be an alignment issue...
i guess my question is what are some ways you can check to see if lca is ok or not.

Tire and wheel are exactly the same as the rest? Swap tires around so an exact matching pair are on the front and recheck...
rant
I always want to know the exact steering wheel position when the hit occurred, and the trajectory of the car vs. the curb...It is far easier for me to find stuff with that info when staring at the car from underneath. I can usually figure all that out after I figure out what all got bent. Sort of an accident reconstruction process.
Nobody ever admits they hit anything, I guess people think that hiding the facts will make the job cheaper...No effin way. If I have to hunt, you are paying.

If the wheel is pushed back in the wheelwell more than a fingers width, you bent something big time.
A hit at 25 is a huge hit. Expect the wheel bearing to start howling very soon.
Getting a wheel alignment probably can't fix this.
All an alignment can do is prove it's outta whack and needs fixed.
You already know that it's outta whack.
Put the car in the air. Stare at it. Compare the bad side to the good side. Triangulation measurements. A decent shop could show you what you bent if it is obvious. If it is really tough to tell and nothing obvious is seen, I have sent stuff to a bodyshop that has a frame specialist, with great results.
Paint lifts and cracks at bent spots, if the suspension parts are factory painted.
Some stuff is guesswork. A 1/4" difference can be darn near impossible to see on a steering knuckle until bad and new are side by side on the floor.
Usually the lower arm folds up first.

Re: ran into curb :(
better yet...
if yeh want a diagnosis from the internet without pictures, with just words based on your knowledge that no one have a slight idea what it is, well, you could try a medical diagnosis from the internet too.
Just be aware that if yer diagnosed with a terminal illness from the internet after a verbal explanation of your symptons, yer to take yerself out at the spot, ok?
It will be accurate, surely.
jus' my 2 cents.

Re: ran into curb :(
from looking at it where it is, the new wheel doesn't seem pushed into the hub at all, i meant it sits farther back towards the rear of the car. The wheel is straight up and down its just closer to the rear of the hub than the drivers side if that makes sense
Re: ran into curb :(
i did this a while back in my 7th gen going about 20 mph but i hit the curb head on (both front tires at the same time) and the only thing it did was knock my alignment all over the place. the shop i took it too said nothing was damaged at all just the toe was off. they said i got real lucky tho so my guess is the control arm...but like everyone has said you wont know untill you jack it up take the tires off and compare both sides. or better yet just take it to a shop and have them take a look at it. if its something easy you can fix then fix it, if not have them do it.
Re: ran into curb :(
Just had the same problem on mine. my lca was a little tweeked but the one that was bent worse was the trailing arm. found a used complete assembly for 43.00 on ebay and it took me like 30 mins to R&R. any questioins feel free to email me 96vtech@gmail.com https://www.civicforums.com/forums/a...6&d=1322973533 is a pic of what mine looked like prior to the fix
