Unhappy 2000 Honda Civic EX (Canadian) Won't Start When Very Cold

Good afternoon friends,

Just recently purchased a 2000 Honda Civic EX (Canadian EX).

The car seems to have trouble starting when the temperature drops to around 0 Celsius, where when I go to start it, the car will crank a couple times, and then die (all the other electrical components will also stop working). This problem only occurs in the cold. When it is warmer outside, the car will start up fine. Also, after jump starting the car and driving it for a while, the car will start up fine again, until the car sits for a long time (~8 hours).

The battery is new, and there are no lights on the dash. I have no experience at all working with cars (this is the first car that I plan to work on), but I am willing to learn.

Where do I start when tackling this problem?

Thanks, and let me know if additional information is required .

Even if the battery is new, cells can fail randomly. To me that sounds like a cell is failed.
Try returning it and getting another battery.
Had this happen with my girlfriend's car, cell failed within a couple months

Voltage drop test while the problem is acting up
