Thread sealent when re-installing engine drain plug?

I saw a video on changing coolant, that suggested using a product from a tube called thread sealant, when reinstalling the engine drain bolt/plug after draining the coolant. Is this something that would really make a difference? Is there much of a threat of coolant leaking out if I don't (or whatever other reason for applying the thread sealant)?

Re: Thread sealent when re-installing engine drain plug?

It uses a crush washer, no need for thread sealant.
The threads are not designed to seal.
That crush washer does the sealing.
You have to get it tight enough to crush in order for it to actually do its job though.

And like I mentioned in the other thread, I do use RTV on that crush washer just because it's 'cheap insurance' against leakage.

Great. One less thing I have to buy and think about.

Thanks.
