Crankshaft pulley bolt removal help

Hey guys Im changing out my timing belt for a 98 civic ex. Everything I've done so far was remove the p/s out the way and the belt, took out the alternator belt and the a/c belt too. Also I believe I aligned the timing belt to tdc. I tried rotating the crankshaft bolt counterclockwise but the timing belt isn't moving anymore so I guess it's on tdc cause the word up is on the tdc. My only problem as of now is the crankshaft itself. The bolt is a pain in the ***. I'm using 2 breaker bars to take it off but it's not working. I don't have a impact tool or anything. Any tips guys?

Can you wedge one breaker bar onto a jack or jack stand and then get a long extension pipe to put on the other breaker bar.

On my 02 I used a 6ft fence post and slid it over the breaker bar to get enough leverage.

Do you have the crank pulley holding tool?
Borrow the crank pulley holding tool from dangerzone? (or similar)

yea that's exactly what I'm doing with the jack stand and it's still not working. I tried jumping on the extension bar, sitting on it and nothing. It's on there good I'm going to give it another go tomorrow.

Re: Crankshaft pulley bolt removal help

When I use that tool, the breaker bar I have holding it is braced up against either the ground or a control arm. Otherwise, that **** wouldn't break loose

Try this:

Block your Honda tool for movement with a long nose vise grip

and than Attach a 6' barbell to your brakerbar

piece of cake even a girl has enough force to lose this bolts.

go to a "big box" store / home depot etc, and buy yourself a 6 feet steel pipe from the plumbing section, put it over the breaker bar, thats how i do it

Re: Crankshaft pulley bolt removal help

Anyone ever broken off the head of the crankshaft bolt? That would certainly be a bad day?

no but i have heard stories of people breaking off the end of the crankshaft from over tightening that bolt, the crank is probably weaker then the bolt and would break or strip first,

last time i took it off it made a noise so loud i thought i broke the socket, but didnt, it was just the bolt snapping loose

Gain 100 pounds immediately and stand on extension pipe/breaker bar. Get a fat friend to come over and sit on it while you push or stand on it too. You can try spraying some PB blaster on it and let it sit overnight..might help some.

Axle and cranks bolts are no challenge for this (me) Sasquatch.
