odd idle after IAC cleaning

98 ek hatch
y7
158xxx
5 speed
straight pipe- rest of engine stock
new cap, rotor, plugs, wires as of 3 months ago roughly

was having odd idles
would randomly want to either be low 600~ at idle
average idle
or as high as 1200~
coolant was bleed multiple times and full

removed throttle body and cleaned iac and body

started the famous 1000 to 1500 idle surge
as expected

tried to get it to relearn idle
3000 till fan kicks on with nothing else on
went to let it idle after fan had kicked on
went right back to surging

i am not sure if it is suppose to go back to the surge or its suppose to stay at an average idle and learn itself or its suppose to surge after the idle re learn, i havent seen anyone say it was suppose to go back to the surge for after the 3k but i have also not seen anyone say it wasnt

any help would be lovely

also when i cleared the code before the last relearn it started and stayed at 2000~ for about 5min (normal for the current temp) then went back to its surge

Re: odd idle after IAC cleaning

shut off when throttle body was blocked
Locate the open port in the body and block it off with your fingers.
Engine dies or idle drops down? IAC stuck open for some reason

If not, check if IAB screw got backed out, needs adjusted
