infamous 3rd gear grind EJ6

I know it's probably been discussed before but I can't find the thread. My third gear grinds when I shift into it at rpms higher than 2.5. Im not sure if it's the gear grinding though because it doesn't sound as bad as a gear grind, but I don't know how else to explain it. If I shift into slowly or at rpms of 2.5 and lower it goes in smoothly. I have a 97 DX btw

Check fluid level? Change trans fluid?

Time to open it up to figure out what happened, then decode what to do about it (fix the one problem, or overhaul it).

I've done neither, been busy with work. Ill get to it this weekend though. If I was to change the fluid what would you recommend? I heard the GM synchromesh fluid is really good for this type of problem, or should I just stick with the Honda MTF?

I'd use Hondas fluid......

The trans appears to already have a problem so I wouldn't hold my breath, but it's worth a shot and if it helps then it's damn cheap help.
