New speedometer from dealer..

So I ordered a new speedometer from the dealer. Mine went bad, the circuit board was shorting out, I tried to re-flow the solder but it was acting up again. I figured just buy a new one and be done with it.

I got the speedometer but the weird part is the odometer is reading 1 mile already. I thought when I got a new one it would be all zeroes. Any reason why a brand new speedometer would have an odometer reading of 1mile already on it?

I haven't installed it yet, tried to email the dealer who sold me it (online) but haven't heard back yet from them. Thought I'd ask here... so let me know..

You're worried about ONE mile?
Pffft.
That's nothing to worry about IMO.
Install it and get on with life.

IIRC, this is normal. I surely would hope the factory actually tested the new part before boxing it up, that's my "most likely" explanation for showing ONE MILE on the odometer.

Did you get an official odometer change/mileage correction sticker for the door jamb?

Be real careful here. if your state has a state inspection, they note it yearly. I would note the date and miles. Not sure exactly you should handle this. Sure it is a Federal law on not notifying title turnover of not exact on the title.

^That^

That's why I ask about the odometer sticker for the door jamb.

No documentation or disclosure might be the legal equivalent of odometer tampering.

We (used to have) a pile of the odometer stickers in the parts department just for this.

In my state, when you do a car title transfer the only thing I remember is checking the box if mileage if beyond 100,000 miles. I haven't actually sold cars or dealt with old titles in many years though.

Oh I didn't mention but the local dealer said they'd put a sticker on the door jamb indicating the speedometer was replaced, date and mileage, plus the paperwork in Honda's database even if I installed the speedometer myself. That was nice of them to offer that, and I will contact them when I install the new speedometer. I will definitely keep the odometer reading legal, no doubt about that. Just was odd that here I thought that odometers when new actually read zero. I know it was a snarky sarcastic comment and yeah I will definitely get on with my life but just wondering why a brand new part had 1 mile on it.. just the curiosity in it all
