heat issues
heat issues
Hello all, I am new here. My wife and I have owned a 99 civic for about 10 years, its a great commuter, till now. There is no heat. This all came into play after replacing the water pump and timing belt. Then the long of the short other things went down hill. I replaced the following for one reason or the other:
tsat (honda oem not after market)
radiator
heater core
all hoses
temp control valve
Here's the weirdness. I have bleed the system multiple times. Just after bleeding heat works...for a little while. When the coolant heats, it goes to the over flow but does not draw back into the radiator when it cools. There is no sign of water in the oil or oil in the water. I have tested the radiator for a combustion leak as well, negative.
What next?

I don't think its the head gasket.
no hydro carbons in radiator with leak by test. Am I missing another sign?
This usually happens so slowly--- that a combustion leak tester kit usually cannot detect it.... The kit doesn't pick up much of anything unless the problem is very rapid.
Find the overheating references sticky here somewhere and read how I diagnose these head gasket leaks.
Re: heat issues
The car hasn't been over heating. I originally put an aftermarket tsat in. The car got warmer than normal, but not over heated. I had a Toyota that did the same thing with an aftermarket tsat so I replaced it with an oem one. That all cleared up. I will look at what you did to determine a blown head gasket.
I so hope its not....its cold outside and I hate working on cars in the cold

Re: heat issues
you are living in denial, and don't want to believe the truth
i would suggest to stop wasting more time researching, or more money on other parts, the sooner you start the head gasket replacement, the sooner it will be fixed,
break out the tool box, and a good heater

Re: heat issues
You right. I hate to have to do it. I wound prefer to do this in the garage. I have to finish my other project first. 72 bronco new wiring harness and fuel injection. I am almost done just need time....
I hate having to work on cars. I rather work on them when I want to!
