Thumbs down Big Mistake? Please Help!!

Let me start off by saying I bought this car today. I had asked the previous owner if the car was in good condition and it's completely not.
I am a student so I was on a tight budget. I purchased the 1997 Honda Civic for 600 dollars. It has 170K on it and no rust so I THOUGHT it was a steal.
I brought the car to the inspection today and I was told I need to fix
Front left axcel
Exhaust broken at center.
Idle control valve
2 front tires
Rear right shock leaking
Battery not tied down so it can electricute me... :/
Spark plugs
Spare tire
Reverse lights
BreAk lights
Rear main seal leaking oil. ..

Those are all the problems now I know I can go to a scrap yard and get half of those. I added up costs and it was around 750$

Like I said I am a student and I know nothing about cars I purchased the car for 600 so I was wondering if it is a good investment. I am working full time as well so I will have the money to do the repairs.

Please get back to me and.let me know your advice. Have you had any of these problems before? Any answers I will be grateful. I thank you all for your help in advance! !

You expected a perfect car for that price?
I brought the car to the inspection today and I was told I need to fix
You are supposed to get a prepurchase inspection BEFORE you buy the POS. That way you might have some bargaining power and you should know better what to expect as far as upcoming repairs.

Guess I also should of asked if it's even drivable?
Did the car drive? Do they decide whether or not to let the car be on the road, or what? (IDK what your regulations are like up there.)

Some people can put up with real rolling crapheaps, other people have to fix every last little thing.

Prioritize your repair list and budget if at all possible. Some concerns seem far more important and immediate than others.

Re: Big Mistake? Please Help!!

Thankyou Ezone.
Car works fine I could drive it all day long.
However the Iac is pretty loud.
And my wheel feels a little wobbly.
I just need to drive this.car maybe 5 a day to work that's all.
I am most probably going to go to the scrap yard on monday.
I agree with what you say some. Pieces are needed more.
What do you think would be the main couple of things I should buy first?
Thankyou so much! You the man

Maybe you mean the exhaust? Fix the exhaust leak.

Get some tires for it. You are gonna need a set of winter tires, no?

Front left axcel
What's wrong with the axle?
Noisy?
Boot split open?
Exhaust broken at center.
Fix.
Idle control valve
What's wrong with this one?
2 front tires
Duh.
Rear right shock leaking
How bad? Does the car bounce excessively? (Might be a huge PITA to get it changed, due to rust and all.
Battery not tied down so it can electricute me... :/
It cannot electrocute you, but if the hot cable makes contact with a ground it could burn the car to the ground.
Cheap DIY, parts store or junkyard.
Spark plugs
DIY
Spare tire
Don't forget the jack, crank, and lugwrench, are they present?
JY.....Or if you gotta get winter tires just get an extra rim and put one of the decent current tires in for a spare.

See if the previous owner has the spare, and any other leftover parts.
Reverse lights
BreAk lights
Brake, not break. Duh. Fix those.
Rear main seal leaking oil. ..
Unless it's pouring oil out faster than you can pour it in, I'd leave it alone until the trans has to come off for a repair.
Check oil frequently, add before it gets too low.

Also, every time the oil filter gets unscrewed, oil runs down the back of the engine and ends up under the trans and may give the appearance of a leaking rear main seal....when in reality it might only be runoff, not really a leak. Clean it all up spotless and dry, drive it, see if there really is a leak or not.
