OK--my daughter called, said her car was "sounding funny". Says it was "racing", even though she was driving normally. She stopped near home. I told her to take it home as I followed. She backed out of a parking spot, drove approximately 100 feet to a stop sign, and it wouldn't go. Like it just fell out of gear. Shifter moves, but it will not engage any gear. If I start it in neutral, it will go into gear, but them goes out again after a minute (maybe after I hit the brakes??). Check engine light also came on. It's a 99 LX with an automatic.

Any hints where to start looking???

Check the trans fluid level. If its low it wont go.
