1999 Civic EX, Noise in Engine bay
1999 Civic EX, Noise in Engine bay
I've had this car for about a month now, and have noticed a slight "whurring" noise coming from the engine bay, timing belt side. doesn't do it at idle, but from 1-2k you can hear it, it "whurrs" like a bearing or a belt. I found a video on youtube, that has kinda the same sound, anyone else have experience with this? The timing belt was supposedly changed recently, I took the belt cover off, belt looks good, doesn't seem to tight or anything, not that you can really tell I suppose. But was hoping maybe this could be some other belt, and not a timing belt or water pump?
Anyway just curious of anyone else had this noise before thanks.
Here is link to video of someones that sounds like mine

Re: 1999 Civic EX, Noise in Engine bay
I'd say to remove accessory belts, one at a time, and see if the noise goes away or is still present.
If you, for example, remove the AC belt and run it and the noise is gone, then investigate which part is noisy. Spin the pulleys, listen for bearing noise or roughness as they spin. (The adjuster pulley is known for having loud/rough/noisy bearing.)
Repeat until noise disappears or all belts are off and noise is till there.
If you get all 3 belts off (assuming you have AC and 3 accessory belts) and the noise is till present, then the noise is probably in the timing area.
Timing belt too tight? Aftermarket belt? Tensioner pulley? IDK, can't tell from where I sit.
