my cruise control tried to kill me.
my cruise control tried to kill me.
Hello every one! So i just got a not so new 97 lx, non vtech. Apart from a quick axle change, slow window fix and a bad oil pressure sensor, the thing purrs. But the other day ... .. i was almost killed by my Cruise control. On the freeway i set it at 65 and after Few seconds it just took off accelerating on its own.. right out of final destination... i hit the the brakes and it wouldnt stop i had to hit the main cruise button off and really step on the brake hard to get it to disengage.
Right now i think the last owner died and the car is haunted. Any ideas on what i could check or should do?

Re: my cruise control tried to kill me.
Well the fact that it didn't shut off when you stepped on the brake means the cruise disengage button is either not hooked up or is bad.
As for the accelerating, I don't know.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: my cruise control tried to kill me.
If you actually killed the main switch and it still kept accelerating, then it would seem there is a cable or actuator problem, as in cables stuck and wouldn't let the throttle close.
Inspect the throttle and cruise cables, and the cams they ride on for misrouting and damage, out of place, binding, independent operation of each cam, and ability to return to throttle closed position freely.
Then maybe start on the electrical stuff if that doesn't pan out..
