98 civic enine will not turn off, Help!

I have a 98 civic, the problem I am having is when you turn the ignition off the engine keeps running. it shuts off radio, radiator fan wil not run , etc., however the engine keeps running. I unplug the connection to the distributor to shut if off then disconnect battery. checked fuses replaced the whole ignition cluster/switch assembly and still same issue. Please help!

Re: 98 civic enine will not turn off, Help!

Something must be supplying battery power to the ignition RUN circuit when it shouldn't be.....

When you connect the battery (and the key is not turned on yet) what powers up? What comes to life? (clues)

ANY work done immediately prior to this problem occurring? Any accidents? Someone stuck a fuse in an empty slot? Anything at all?
Start there, retrace everything that was done.

I really have no idea what it could be, but this might get interesting.

when I go to start the car , I, like I stated in last post, I reconnect the battery cable (negative) and on the dash the idiot lights light up and I hear some clicking and a hissing sound for about 2 to 4 seconds the dome light comes on because I usually have door open. No work has been done for a while with exception of I had to replace an upper control arm, chuck hole, besides oil/filter change. I pulled every fuse I could get t0, checked and everything was good. I'm kind of leaning towards a relay, which one not sure. Thanks for input ezone

This is new info. I kinda figured this is why you'd be disconnecting the battery, but it wasn't explained in the first post.

replace an upper control arm, chuck hole
Hmmm. There could be a lot of wiring in those areas.....

Hook up the battery but don't put the key in and don't start it. Just leave it connected for the moment so the dash is lit up.

......maybe have someone in the drivers seat so they can yell if you find the magic spot that gets the power to shut off..or at least flicker, any sign that you might be getting close.....

Have you tried wiggling any wiring in the areas you were working in?
How about wiggling wiring harnesses anywhere else in the engine compartment, and the rest of the car?

I pulled every fuse I could get t0
Which fuse box, dash or engine compartment?
Did you pull any of the larger square fuses? Fuses #42-57 in the engine compartment are all powered all the time.....If you can pull one and everything powers down, that'd be a starting point at least.

checked and everything was good
Obviously, that's not correct LOL. You still have a huge problem .

Does the car have remote start?
Anything electrical that wasn't factory?
