1996 civic dx idle/map sensor problem
1996 civic dx idle/map sensor problem
Hey guys, I have a 96 civic dx with the 1.6L sohc engine and 4 speed auto. My problem is this: the car starts and won't idle, if I feather the throttle I can just barely keep it running. But when I unplug the map sensor it runs like a top. I replaced the sensor, checked for vacuum leaks, checked compression. All good. Car has 99000 miles. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Fuel pressure good? fuel pump could be the culprit. Idle control valve, throttle body, and everything else in that line of mechanics can be cleaned to see if it helps, If your sensor was bad or dirty odds are the rest is too.

My thoughts are the IAC. Cause when I pull the map it runs fine. I replaced the map, PVC, pulled the TB and still the same. Could the fuel pump be bad and still work intermittently?

Fuel filter could be clogged, but if the pump is weak and on its way out it might not be suppling enough pressure(gas)
