can i cut my power steering belt?

I've got a 99 civic on its last legs. It runs paper routes I'm getting a car on the first.. the steering rack is shot... half inch of play in each hydraulic arm.. you can pull it in and out... today I was backing up after driving it like that the past week and I heard a squealing and my engine stalled. I turned it back on and looked and noticed the power steering pump had seized.

I need this car for work just for another week... it seems like the power steering was barely working anyway at a stop so I'm wondering if I could just cut the power steering belt to free the engine and stop the squeak?

Thx

Re: can i cut my power steering belt?

To answer myself... hopefully correctly

Go for it dude. It will just be a lot harder to turn. Kinda like a manual rack but even harder when Ur not moving. Just keep it lubricated.. although I guess you said your rack is shot anyway so whatevs.

Also this civic will be for sale in two weeks... for anyone who wants a 99 sedan lx. Probably sub 1k
