97 civic motor swap emissions help
I just bought a 97 civic. It has a d15b block and d16y8 head amd y8 ecu. I passed everything in my inspection except emissions. I dont have any codes coming up and no light but i have 3 monitors that arent ready. I did all the driving cycles and im up to 779 miles driven. Still arent ready. In NY i can pass with 2 monitors .i have EVAP, CATALYST and 02 sensor. Ive tried everything. Some help would be greatly appreciated. Any tips or tricks. Thanks

Got a code reader that will show if the monitors are completed or not?
Got a code reader that will show a datalist of engine parameters?
Find one.
Connect it and see if the IAT and ECT read the same on a stone cold engine.
Now take it for a drive. Follow the drive cycle instructions to the letter.
See if the monitor(s) actually do run and pass while driving. (I assume the O2 and CAT probably do at some point.)
Then watch the reader to see if they are reset to NOT RUN status when you start the car again.
If they reset every time you turn the car off, you might need to drive it until they set, then get it tested without shutting the car off.
Check the BACK UP fuse too.
If the monitors never run during the drive, look into the enable criteria and see what the PCM has to see before it can start the tests. I know an EVAP test won't even start if the coolant temp is too high or too low at engine startup.
Go to a emissions test referee.

Re: 97 civic motor swap emissions help
***UPDATE**** I did a little thinking and checked my thermostat. I wasnt getting any heat in the car. So i found a mishimoto 150° thermostat. Motor requires a 180° one so i changed it and refilled it with coolant and presto, heat, and now my idle doesnt fluxuate, AND my vtec kicks in now. So problem solved. Hope this helps othet people. Ill post pics of my civic in another section. Thanks guys

Jeez.
I wasnt getting any heat in the car.
Your gas mileage should go up quite a bit now too. Glad you figured it out.
