1998 Civic EX false tachometer readings

1998 Honda Civic EX
5 Speed

Problem: Tachometer reads about 3000 RPM at cold start and increases as I accelerate. Tach usually corrects itself to correct RPM reading but will often jump back up and read very unusually high RPMs as I drive under normal conditions.

Mileage: 233,990

Recent repairs: Distributor O-ring/seal replaced

This problem started after I had the distributor O-ring/seal replaced, not sure if the two are connected or not.

Any help with possible diagnosis for this would be appreciated

Got a 98 Civic y8 auto. Replaced the dizzy and now my tach reads about 1k high. Sometimes more, less, sometimes it works. I believe the yellow with blue stripe wire on your obd2 dizzy plug controls tach. Check for shorts, new eBay dizzy had loose internals from factory.
