Trunk light/3rd brake light

Trunk light/3rd brake light
I have a 97 Honda Civic EX, and the trunk light has never worked. I've replaced the bulb, and checked the fuse,it's fine. I'm not sure if the trunk switch is bad or what the problem is. Also the 3rd brake light, or high mount brake light, whatever it's name is, doesn't work as well. Is there some connection between the two? Any light on the subject would be great. Thanks.
