97 starting issues
97 starting issues
I picked up a 97 civic and when I got it, it had a snapped timing belt. I've replace the timing belt and have been working on getting the car to start, this is where I've run into issues. At first I thought it was just the battery(it was sitting around for about a year, and the battery was bad when I had it tested) but that did not fix the issue. I jumped the starter and it turns over just fine. The fuel pump pumps and the main relay clicks when the key is turned over. It just seems like no power is getting to the starter at all. I was thinking maybe the wires going into the starter could be bad. But I'm not sure...the wires all look good the grounds on the engine and the battery connectors are all clean and tight. I'm just stuck at this point.
If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: 97 starting issues
When you say "jumper", do you mean a jump start, or shorting across the terminals of the starter?
Wiring diagram and a test light.
Test, don't guess.
Once you get it to crank and it still won't start, do a compression test.
I bet it bent valves when the timing belt let go.
