Idle issues when warmed up
Idle issues when warmed up
1997 Honda Civic Dx
OK so let me give u a quick rundown, car has sat for 8 months not running due to a corroded wire. Took two mechanics to find it and countless labor hours.
Car now runs and drives, idles fine when first started. Once I drive it and it warms up the idle starts to fluctuate up and down when stopped. It runs and drives just fine and never stalls when stopped at light.
Alternator is brand new, driven it for about 100 miles or so to see if I could clean out any possible bad gas or anything like that.
I have been looking into the ICAV, but there is no CEL. I got some throttle body cleaner and sprayed in there good and then started it up still the same.
The ecu was unplugged at one point while they were testing everything, could it just need to be reset? Not sure how to do that but its worth a shot. Took a peek to see if I could even see ICAV and I really cant. Tried to remove the lower half under the air filter but I can't see whats holding it on.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have spent a ton on labor just getting it running again I really don't have much more cash to just throw at it.

Re: Idle issues when warmed up
try checking for vac leaks. if it has sat that long, then maybe a hose got dry rotted or something. Start the car, let it start fluctuating in idle. spray the carb cleaner on all the intake parts after the throttle body. if the rpms drop, you have found your leak.
Re: Idle issues when warmed up
checked for vaccum leaks, didn't find anything.
Also tried to see if there was any air in my cooling system but not sure if i did it correctly:
Removed the cap to the radiator fluid was filled to the top
let the car warm up with the heat on no fan though
put the cap back on.
I read in the instruction that you were supposed to add more coolant but it was full.
I noticed that the fan never once came on. Jumped the pins at the relay and it worked.

Re: Idle issues when warmed up
The rad cap has to be higher than the motor. The fans must come on, that means the thermostat is open and allowing water out of the engine. raise the front of the car, take the cap off, start the car, and let it warm up (fans on). watch coolant
