I have what looks like a sensor of some sort with three bolt holes and and no open holes around it...any ideas. It hasa screen in it.

Re: unbolted sensor with two plugins

sounds like a vtec solenoid, but however, no pics nor a good description of the location in which this "sensor" is makes it very, VERY hard to help you out.

That's what it is..I have a 96 civic and it looks like the previous owner did a head swap and put a 99 dx/lx head and left the solenoid loose. I looked where it should be and see no where it would go. The motor runs..so should I just disconnect it?

Re: unbolted sensor with two plugins

I'ma go ahead and move this to the correct section then..

as for the vtec solenoid.. If your car was originally equipped with VTEC and now, thanks to the head swap, does not, then (my logic tells me) you should be throwing a CEL, probably P1259 or so.

How bout we backtrack a bit. What kind of car do you have. We got it's a 96 (presumably) civic, what trim level was it originally.

Also, from what I gather, the solenoid is just sitting there out in the open, still connected? Or is it bolted down somewhere not electrically connected? Or is it just randomly sitting in your engine bay.

Re: unbolted sensor with two plugins

Its a ex trim. The solid is unbolted but still electrically connected. And a CEL will come on after I start it when I rev the engine. Don't have a code reader so I don't know what code its throwing.
