2000 Honda Civic EX

I have a 2000 Honda Civic 5 speed, 2 door, EX, 2.6.

I replaced the speed sensor and have checked the back of the gauges to make sure they are plugged in and everything checked out. What would be the next step to figure out why my speedometer and odometer are not working.

I believe that I have checked the fuse box and all seem to be working, but if there is a certain fuse please let me know what number that would be in the fuse box.

Reading the datalist from the computer while driving would tell you if the vehicle speed sensor is working properly.

Most of the time they need a speedometer.

How often is the speedometer bad and it not being a relay?

If I change the speedometer, wont that change the mileage? If I change the speedometer will I have to change the whole panel or can I just change certain pieces?

The only reason I ask is because I do not want to change the mileage.

Re: 2000 Honda Civic EX

99% are a bad speedometer if the VSS in the trans is actually good and the wiring is good.
Some simple (or maybe not so simple) diagnosis should be done before wasting a lot of money.

The speedometer comes with the odometer. A new one will read all zeros, and a used one will read whatever the car had on it.

The speedometer can be replaced separately from the rest of the gauges.

A speedometer service can change the mileage to whatever you need. For a price.

The circuit board on the back of the speedometer itself is usually the problem. (NOT the circuit board on the back of the gauge cluster.)
I have repaired a few bad ones in the past, BUT many of the circuit boards are semi-sealed, so repairs are nearly impossible.
