Possible Head Gasket Issue
Possible Head Gasket Issue
First post and it has to be under a bad situation. Oi....Happens a lot I suppose.
Anyway. I have a 1997 Civic LX.
It blew a hose, so now it has all new thermostat and hoses up in that area (I am *not* a car junkie, so bear with me)
Exhaust broke, so it has an all new exhaust.
Car is still over heating but turning the heat on makes it go down again.
Today I started it up and it was accelerating like it didn't really want to, then it would jerk into gear like "Oh, that's what you wanted"
Exhaust got mildly louder, more growly but I attributed that and the sluggishness to the cold weather (New York)
While I was out it just abruptly got VERY loud, like I had a coffee can tip on it or something (I had a car with one, it was fun) but this noise was just wrong and it scared me.
It was over heating again slightly, but after it started those noises, it went down a bit before going up again. I was afraid to hit the gas because it was so loud.
Edit: and the check engine light isn't on.

Re: Possible Head Gasket Issue
I'd say most likely you have air in the coolant system that needs to be bled out. However, the noise I don't really understand, or the sluggishneses.
My question is, did the stutter happen right after you started it up and took off? If that's the case it's possible you have coolant in a cylinder(s) and it caused the car to misfire before it blew it out into the exhaust or burned it off. Which is a possible head gasket.
