1997 2dr EX clutch problems
1997 2dr EX clutch problems
So i noticed the other day that my clutch was real loose and some other abnormal things were happening(shook hard while accelerating in 1st gear, struggled starting one morning last week). Started my car today and it wouldn't go into any gears, and reverse would just make a grinding noise, but not actually go in(only reverse made the noise). The clutch gave no resistance to my foot unlike the day before when it actually gave a little. Started it again, same thing. Few minutes later, I started it again and was luckily able to get it into second gear so I could park it(I had rolled into the middle of the parking lot). Didn't attempt to shift it at all. With the car off, i was able to put the car in any gear i wanted too.
On a side note, i got into a fender bender last week. The front left of my car got damaged. The light and the hood (got bent up badly) took most of the damage. With the grill and bumper having a scratch or two. But the check engine light came on right after the accident. Been driving it for a little over a week like that. 4 hr drive back to school, then couple times during the week. But I'm not sure if these problems correlate with each other, or maybe there is a leak with transmission fluid? Or maybe I just need a whole new clutch. Any thoughts would be appreciated. But I must say that I have very little knowledge of cars unfortunately.
Thanks

Re: 1997 2dr EX clutch problems
Check your clutch fluid level to see if maybe you cracked the clutch line in the accident. With no fluid it would explain the loss of pedal feel and the fact the clutch is not working.
Could be a simple fix if its just a busted line.

Re: 1997 2dr EX clutch problems
Was a little busy and i don't use my car much so I didn't check my fluid yet(didn't even realize i'd have to get under the car to do it). But if my cars in gear when i turn the key it assumes the clutch isn't in and just shakes. This is worse than the last time. Haven't touched in 5 days. But i can't manually check the fluid unless i get some jacks. And i can't drive it into a shop to get it looked at. Any new guesses with it getting worse with no use?

Nevermind, was confusing transmission fluid with clutch fluid. The clutch fluid is definitely low. Just adding what my owners manual will fix it till i get home(4 hr drive)?
