It might be the very early beginnings of a rod knock, but I think it's just valve chatter, have the valves adjusted and it should go away.

Hey man I don't really know about cars like that but I do mess with my Honda alot which I have the same engine you do... My suggestions are it can be the heat shield on your headers, valves need to be adjusted, or sounds like your rod is knocking

Don't let them charge you no more then 80$ to adjust a valve

Well I have a Honda civic 97 and my valves need to be adjusted also . Everytime I drive all you here is a ticking noise lol I hate it but yea mos def that's your problem. When you fix it let us know I wanna know how much they charged you and stuff remember no more than 80
