Hi Everyone,

I'm pretty new to the site, have a question hoping you experts can help me with. Purchased a 98 civic dx hatch automatic transmission. a couple a months back. Car has been fine but have noticed the following:

In the mornings or when i get out of work. I start the car fine, put the car in drive and i step on the gas second later seems as i'm stepping on the gas seems like the car is not going its as if the car is losing power or stalling.

But weird thing i keep my foot on the gas and the car then I guess "cathes" and drives fine. After those initial seconds the car is perfectly fine, drives fine no issues.

Just find it weird I was hoping someone could please chime in w/ advise.

I saw on another post some about the batter maybe. One thing I noticed is the terminals are lose and I should replace w/ new ones but would this affect the car after it's already started and running?

The only other issues i've had w/ the car are misfire codes of which i've changed the following parts:
a.) Spark Plugs
b.) Spark Plug Cables
c.) Distributor Cap
d.) Ignition Rotor
e.) Fuel Filter

The check engine light comes on and off, next thing i'm going to do is clean out my fuel injectors and hope that helps.

I truly can't remember if my issues start before/after but its been a constant issue for me.

I have a 2002 Civic Ex...my car was doing this and i had to replace a bad Ignition Coil.

Thanks for the reply. I actually purchased a replacement ignition coil just never got around to replacing it. It's a pretty simple install i'll try to get to it over the weekend.

I have been looking on google to see if anyone else has experienced this issue, and this pretty much sums up my exact issue in case it helps anyone.

Keep in mind this only happening to me when i drive the car in the morning, or when i'm leaving work. "Step on gas but lags, like not getting gas then...
Can anyone tell me why my 91 civic hatch would have this problem--
Intermittently, when I step on gas from a stop or from going very slow to accellerate, it lags SOOO BADLY. Sometimes it's really feels like i'm stepping on the brake not the gas (but i'm not) then it will get a slow, slow surge like it finally registers that I'm giving it gas but even then it takes a lot longer to accellerate then it would normally. Seems to be only first gear doing this maybe it does it less so in other gears and is less noticable. It's really almost caused me to be rear ended a few times now. "

Guys,

I changed the ignition switch, and the problem seemed to have gone away for a little bit, but returned today when i was leaving work.

it was as bad this time, but i was stepping on the gas and nothing had to let off and step on the gas again for the car to go.

Any ideas??

At this point i'm thinking of taking this car to the dealer :-(

A part in the distributor housing causing a mis-fire problem seems to be a common problem with these cars. I forget which part it is but, try replacing the distributor housing itself.

Lag in throttle may be the tranny, or the TPS, or stick throttle cable
