Runaround from dealer on oil pan gasket?
Runaround from dealer on oil pan gasket?
Long Version:
I had an oil leak on my car and the dealer told me it was my oil pan gasket. They replaced it. They called me after they replaced it and said "We replaced the gasket.. But when we did that, it allowed pressure to build back up to normal and we think that is what caused your head gasket to blow out on the side, allowing oil to drip down the side of your motor".
So I was going to go buy a new car instead of have it replaced but decided to get a second opinion. I played stupid when I went to the other Honda shop. They immediately pointed out my oil pan gasket. They said it wasn't installed right. The gasket is sticking out and there's sealant all over the place.
I took the car back and they stood by their work and said it was perfect. They told me that replacement gaskets DO stick out a little bit since there is no groove for them to seat into.
Short version: Is my oil pan gasket supposed to stick out a little?
Here's some pics.

Re: Runaround from dealer on oil pan gasket?
looks like a bad install to me. and if it was a rubber type gasket, there should be no silicone stuff anywhere. i bet they didnt seal it properly and the whole story about fixing the oil pan causes the HG to blow is bs.
Re: Runaround from dealer on oil pan gasket?
I thought the same thing with the silicone stuff. I looked through my haynes manual.. it does call for some sealant. but yeah I do think it's a bad install.
