crank shaft sensor
crank shaft sensor
My car was running like a top until I went in to have some routine maintenance done. I had the timing belt and water pump replaced. When I left the engine light came on. Had it towed back and it was the crank shaft sensor. They replaced the sensor free of charge stating that their service tech bent some wires while working on the timing belt. The light has come on again with the same crank shaft sensor code. They are now saying it is the engine wiring harness and they are deciding weather or not they caused this problem. I just want some opinions on what is going on with my civic. thanks
Re: crank shaft sensor
The crank position sensor is located in the distributor, effectively driven by the timing belt. It essentially controls fuel and ignition timing as well as the speed and position of the crank. Have you drove the car at all after the new sensor was put in? If your car has a faulty or bad sensor the car will literally throw a tantrum (i.e. it will idle like dooky..backfire, etc) but if not--my gut would say it's the tech's fault. What did they exactly say was wrong with the harness?
Re: crank shaft sensor
They said that the sensor connection to the harness was loose. The car drives fine at times and then sometimes acts like it is choking out when I try to speed up. It has killed at idol. The engine light comes on when it acts like it is choking out and goes off when the car speeds up like normal. They said since the connection was loose it would go back and forth like that.
