Engine Acceleration Problem
Engine Acceleration Problem
1997 Honda Civic DX 5-speed manual transmission.
As the engine reaches shifting RPM it starts to bog down. I press on the gas pedal a little more but nothing happens, then BANG, the engine kicks in again. It doesn't start doing this until the engine warms up to operating temperature (3:00 on the gauge). Also, when this happens I start to smell what seems like exhaust fumes inside the car.
I do most of the maintenance and repairs on my car, but this is beyond my knowledge and ability.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to learn what I can before taking it to a repair shop.

Re: Engine Acceleration Problem
sounds like its backfiring, sounds like maybe a piston ring, because once your car has heated up to normal tempature your piston will expand and fit tighter. thats my thought on it
