97 DX - Engine and shift stick vibrates
Hi, I'm new to this forum
. I have a 1997 Civic LX and it has 357,000 km on it and it's still running strong.
(to be clear, I have an '97 LX, not DX, as the thread name says)
However, in the last week, my engine and shift stick vibrates intermittently after I start the car. Previously, it would occur for just a few seconds and then go away when I start driving, but now, it takes a few minutes of driving for it to go away.
Even when I'm driving, the vibration will skip in and out and I can definitely feel it when I have my foot on the petal. I can really feel the vibration when I'm in first gear - it feels like I'm about to stall. Also, the "check engine" light came on and will blink once in a while...
I'm trying to figure out what I could have done differently in the past few weeks to cause this.... and here are some things that I think may have contributed to it.
1) I haven't done an oil change for 6000 km now
2) There were a few moments when I just gunned it to beat the yellow light
3) There was *super* heavy rain during one of my 2-hour trips
4) During the heavy rain, my windshield and windows were fogged up so I blasted the heater to max
5) There were some moments where I would idle for 5-10 minutes
I've had the engine misfire on ignition before and it would cause the "check engine" light to come on, but I got around this problem by realizing that I would have to power on the car, wait a few seconds, and THEN do the ignition. Eventually, the "check engine" light would just go away.
Can any gurus provide some insight as to what could be going on? This is my first car (as I'm relatively young) and I'm hoping it can live a long life.. I bought it at 308,000 km and now it's 357,000 km so it's quite a magical car.
