I have a 1996 Civic Vtec 1.6, the engine light came on and off. I just send it to replace the top gasket as I suspect it's leaking and over pressuring the water resevior. I use to see the water residue on the resevior cap and frequent topping up is required - engine old no discolour, radiator water also looks clean. Now it looks like the water problem has been resolved but my engine light keep coming on and off. According to the mechanic, he suspect that the sensor (body sensor - what is this sensor by the way?) just below the intake manifold has a craked, maybe due to the removal of the cylinder head that they have accidentally damaged it. This sensor switch is so costly and I would not want to chage it if it is not the actual cause of the engine light coming on and off. Appreciate your advise.

Take it somewhere else and get the code read. Maybe they can tell you whats actually going on with it. I think the sensor below the intake manifold is the knock sensor... but im not totally sure on 6th gens. It may be an o2 sensor as well.
