So I'm looking to buy a 2000 civic si with what I'm told is a re-built b16a 1.6L engine with vtec.. so what my (possible stupid) question is, how can I tell if there is vtec,, and if there is, how can I tell if its working?.. any help would be awesome. Thanks

Welcome to the forum. I have a 99 Si (same thing as the 00). And so far I love it so far that has a very popular engine in it.

Next time use the search feature. This topic has been covered numerous times. I will chock it up to your newbness and answer you outright this time.

I stole this pic from another post. This is the vtec solenoid. It's mounted right next to the distributor(the black thing halfway off of the left side of the pic), and directly left of the valve cover(the red thing in the pic). When you test drive it you will be able to hear/feel it "kick in" at around 5000 rpm's.
