Ticky engine noise

Upon a cold start the engine has a ticking noise, it becomes very faint after about 2 minutes of driving...anybody have a idea as to what this is?

Re: Ticky engine noise

Likely a valve adjustment is needed, can you be more specific on the noise or location of the sound? If it sounds like a light tick, isn't constant, and comes from the center of the engine block then it is almost certainly a valve. Its fairly common and and easy fix with the right tools.

yea check your valves but also check your oil level and make sure your using a good grade oil, when your engine is cold your oil is thick and at a lower level so it will take those 2minutes or so you are describing to thin out the oil and to get it around engine components to keep them lubricated,a lad arrived at my door one day with a car ticking mad and when i checked the engine it was running on heat alone lol not a drop of oil in it

When is the last time you changed your oil? If either you can't remember or it's been 5k miles or more go ahead and change the oil.

I agree - Change your oil and use a 5w-30 or thinner first. If it still ticks then you'll need to adjust the valve lash.
